Red-Hot Mumbai Indians Surge to Third After Boult and Rohit Dismantle SRH

Mumbai Indians continued their red-hot resurgence in IPL 2025 with a dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, climbing to third on the points table after their fourth consecutive victory. Rohit Sharma led the chase with a fluent 70, while Trent Boult’s fiery opening spell (4 for 26) tore through the SRH top order.

Batting first, SRH were left reeling at 35 for 5 inside nine overs, undone by early movement and variable bounce. Boult and Deepak Chahar struck twice each in the powerplay, restricting SRH to the lowest powerplay score of the season: 24 for 4.

Only Heinrich Klaasen offered resistance for SRH, crafting a superb 71 off 44 balls, including a reverse-scooped six off Jasprit Bumrah. He shared a 99-run partnership with Impact Player Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37) to lift SRH to a modest 143 for 8. The innings finished with a rare hit-wicket, as Manohar disturbed his stumps trying to defend a Boult yorker.

Chasing 144, MI started aggressively despite losing Ryan Rickelton early to Jaydev Unadkat. Rohit Sharma, continuing his strong run of form, struck cleanly from the outset, taking on both pace and spin with elegance and authority. His 70 came off just 44 balls and included two sixes.

He found support from Will Jacks early on, and then from Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 40 off just 19 deliveries, sealing the win with over four overs to spare. The match ended with a misfield at deep square leg, symbolic of SRH’s off-colour night in the field.

SRH, who have now lost six of their eight games, slipped to second-last on the table with a concerning net run rate of -1.361, barely ahead of Chennai Super Kings. Questions are being raised over their tactics, including Klaasen’s position in the batting order, with experts calling for an urgent rethink.

For MI, it’s a classic late-season surge. After managing just one win in their first five matches, they’ve now stitched together four wins on the trot, building momentum at the right time and showcasing the depth and firepower that’s defined their IPL legacy.
