A blistering 89-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Sikandar Raza propelled Lahore Qalandars to a five-wicket win over Multan Sultans in a high-stakes Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 clash at the Gaddafi Stadium. Chasing 186 on a tricky surface, the duo’s calculated aggression saw Qalandars home with an over to spare, lifting them to second place on the points table.
After being asked to bat first, Multan Sultans posted a seemingly competitive 185 for 3, anchored by skipper Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 76 off 48 balls and Kamran Ghulam’s brisk 52* from 31 deliveries. Despite a slow start in the powerplay—managing just 39 runs and losing Yasir Khan—Rizwan held the innings together. The introduction of Tom Curran tightened the screws further, as he removed Shai Hope with a sharp in-cutter in the 11th over.
Ghulam then joined Rizwan and the duo found timely boundaries, especially in the death overs. Haris Rauf’s final over leaked 20 runs, giving Sultans the late boost they needed. Yet, it proved insufficient in the face of Qalandars' composed chase.
Lahore's reply began with early intent but suffered an initial setback as opener Mohammad Naeem fell cheaply. Abdullah Shafique (34) then played a fluent hand, including a stylish flick off Mohammad Hasnain, keeping the run rate in check. However, the 12th over brought a twist, with Ubaid Shah dismissing both Shafique and Sam Billings, momentarily shifting momentum back to the Sultans.
Enter Mitchell and Raza.
The pair quickly wrested control, launching a counterattack that left the Sultans scrambling. They smashed eight sixes in a match-defining partnership, targeting Ubaid and Akif Javed in particular during the 13th to 15th overs, which yielded 43 runs combined. Mitchell struck a composed 64 off 38 balls, while Raza remained unbeaten on a rapid 40 off 21 to seal the win.
Multan Sultans now find themselves teetering on the edge of elimination, rooted to the bottom of the table with five losses and only four matches remaining. In contrast, Qalandars look poised for a strong finish, riding high on confidence and momentum.
