PSL 2025: Babar, Talat Steer Peshawar Zalmi to Commanding Win Over Lahore Qalandars

Peshawar Zalmi bounced back in style in the 2025 Pakistan Super League, cruising to a seven-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium. Powered by clinical bowling from Alzarri Joseph and a composed partnership between captain Babar Azam and Hussain Talat, Zalmi comfortably chased down a modest 130-run target with 20 balls to spare.

Having won the toss, Babar opted to field first, a decision vindicated almost immediately as Zalmi’s pace attack tore through the Qalandars’ top order. Joseph struck early, while Luke Wood provided excellent support to reduce the home side to a disastrous 21 for 4. Only a fighting 52 off 37 balls from Sikandar Raza, on his birthday, gave the innings some respectability. He shared brief stands with the lower order, helping Lahore post 129 before being bowled out in the final over.

Joseph was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 15, while Talat and Wood chipped in with two wickets each.

Zalmi’s chase got off to a shaky start, with Lahore’s new-ball pair of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf providing early breakthroughs. Zalmi were rocked at 40 for 3, but a steady and unbroken 93-run partnership between Babar and Talat soon took the game away from Qalandars.

Babar, showing trademark calm and control in a modest chase, brought up his half-century off 37 balls and remained unbeaten on 56. Talat, not known for big hitting, timed his innings perfectly, scoring 51* and finishing the game with back-to-back boundaries off a wayward Rauf.

Shaheen Afridi, with 2 for 22, was the only bowler to pose any consistent threat, while Rauf, despite an electric opening over, lost his edge as the match progressed.

The win lifts Peshawar Zalmi to fourth on the table, leapfrogging Lahore Qalandars on net run rate. With momentum on their side, Zalmi may be finding their rhythm just as Qalandars begin to falter in their campaign.
