Kohli Climbs to Second in IPL 2025 Orange Cap Race, Hazlewood Joins Purple Cap Leaders

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made significant noise on both the Orange and Purple Cap leaderboards following their clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with star batter Virat Kohli and pacer Josh Hazlewood surging up the charts.

Kohli's Consistency Lifts Him to No. 2

Virat Kohli continued his red-hot form in IPL 2025, smashing a composed 70 off 42 balls – his second consecutive half-century. The knock took his season tally to 392 runs from nine innings, elevating him to second place in the race for the Orange Cap.

At the top remains Gujarat Titans' B Sai Sudharsan, who has been remarkably consistent with 417 runs in eight matches, averaging 52.12 with a strike rate of 152.18.

Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran, once the early pace-setter, has slipped to third with 377 runs, while Mumbai Indians' ever-reliable Suryakumar Yadav is close behind in fourth place with 373 runs, continuing his streak of steady performances.

Not far off are Jos Buttler (GT) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), both with 356 runs. Jaiswal has made a strong comeback after a poor start to the season, notching scores of 75, 51, 74, and 49 in his last four outings.

Hazlewood Equals Purple Cap Leader

On the bowling front, RCB’s Josh Hazlewood delivered a game-changing spell, picking up 4 for 33 against Rajasthan to derail their chase. He now sits tied at the top of the Purple Cap standings with GT’s Prasidh Krishna – both boasting 16 wickets from eight matches. However, Krishna holds the top spot due to a superior economy rate and average.

A cluster of bowlers follows closely with 12 wickets each, including GT’s R Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj, CSK’s Noor Ahmad, DC’s Kuldeep Yadav, MI’s Hardik Pandya, and LSG’s Shardul Thakur. Among them, Kuldeep stands out with the best economy rate of 6.50, followed by Noor Ahmad at 7.66.
