The Netherlands will make their first-ever bilateral tour of Bangladesh later this month, playing a three-match T20I series in Sylhet ahead of the Asia Cup. The series was confirmed after India's scheduled tour of Bangladesh was postponed, leaving the hosts in need of competitive cricket before the continental tournament kicks off on September 9.
The Dutch team is set to arrive in Dhaka on August 26, before travelling to Sylhet for a three-day training camp. The first T20I will be played on August 30, followed by the second on September 1 and the third on September 3. All matches are scheduled for 6:00 PM local time at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
This will be the first bilateral series between the two sides in Bangladesh and only the second overall. The first came back in 2012 when Bangladesh toured the Netherlands for two T20Is.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged the series on short notice after India postponed their August tour, which was initially set to include three ODIs and three T20Is. Without the Netherlands' visit, Bangladesh would have faced a month-long gap in international fixtures ahead of the Asia Cup.
The BCB had also explored hosting Nepal but eventually finalised the series with the Netherlands.
The two teams last met in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where Bangladesh defeated the Netherlands in Kingstown on June 13. In total, they have faced off in five T20Is, with Bangladesh leading the head-to-head 4-1.
The Netherlands have played in Bangladesh once before—during the 2014 T20 World Cup—where they memorably beat Ireland to progress to the tournament's main round.
The series will serve as valuable preparation for both sides—Bangladesh as they gear up for the high-stakes Asia Cup, and the Netherlands as they continue to build momentum and experience in subcontinental conditions.
