Nasir Hossain Resumes Competitive Cricket After Two-Year Ban

Bangladesh allrounder Nasir Hossain has made his return to competitive cricket after serving a two-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Emirates Cricket Board's anti-corruption code during the 2020-21 Abu Dhabi T10 league.

Nasir featured for Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club in their Dhaka Premier Division League match against Gazi Group Cricketers in Mirpur on Monday, marking his first appearance in competitive cricket since May 2023.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed Nasir’s eligibility to return to official cricket after completing all the necessary requirements as part of his sanction. This included attending the mandatory anti-corruption education session. As per the terms of the ban, Nasir became eligible to play again as of April 7, 2025.

Nasir had been banned by the ICC in September 2023, alongside seven other individuals associated with the Pune Devils franchise. His suspension stemmed from two key charges: failing to disclose the receipt of a gift, an iPhone 12 valued over US$750, to the anti-corruption official, and not fully disclosing the details of the approach made to him involving corrupt conduct through the phone. Additionally, Nasir was found to have not fully cooperated with the anti-corruption investigation, a charge he accepted.

Of the two-year suspension, six months were suspended, meaning that Nasir was barred from playing professional cricket for the full duration of the ban but could now resume his career following its completion.

Before his suspension, Nasir Hossain had been a regular fixture in Bangladesh's international cricket scene, playing 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is between 2011 and 2018. His last competitive match before the ban was in May 2023, for Prime Bank Cricket Club in a List A game against Gazi Group Cricketers.

With his ban now behind him, Nasir will be hoping to make an impact in the domestic circuit and perhaps earn a spot back in the national team.
